Atlantic Crossing is the sixth solo studio album by British rock vocalist Rod Stewart, originally released on August 15, 1975, by Warner Bros. Records. The album marked a landmark moment in Stewart's career: it was his debut release on a new label after leaving Mercury Records and the breakup of the Faces. Produced by the legendary Tom Dowd (who had previously worked with such icons as Aretha Franklin and The Allman Brothers Band), the album symbolized Stewart's "Atlantic Crossing"—from British folk rock to a more American-influenced sound, influenced by soul, blues, and pop rock. Recorded in five US studios (New York, Miami, Hollywood, Memphis, and Muscle Shoals), the album featured a stellar lineup of session musicians, including guitarists Steve Cropper and Jesse Ed Davis, bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn of Booker T. & the MG's, and the Memphis Horns. In 2025, to mark the album's 50th anniversary, Rhino Records (a division of Warner Music) will release a special edition version of Atlantic Crossing (Quadio Mix) on Blu-ray Audio. Released on April 11, 2025, it is part of the Quadio series—a collection of previously unreleased quadraphonic (4-channel) mixes of classic 1970s albums. Quadraphonic is a rare four-channel stereo technology popular in the vinyl era but forgotten due to the lack of compatible equipment.
